NatPower H. has developed hydrogen refueling stations specifically for yachts, while Zaha Hadid Architects has designed the stations. As reported, the project has already secured the participation of twenty-five Italian marinas and ports and is set to begin in the summer of 2024 with a goal of creating 100 refueling stations by 2030.
“On the back of a renewable project pipeline that already exceeds 23 GW, we decided to create NatPower H – the first global operator for the production, storage, and distribution of green hydrogen – to build the world’s first hydrogen refueling infrastructure for recreational boating,” stated Fabrizio Zago, Group CEO NatPower. The first station will be open in summer at the Marina Sant’Elena in Venice.
The project is a collaboration between Baglietto, BluEnergy Revolution, Bluegame, Fitchner, Linde, Studio Maresca, Sige, and Tecma Solutions.
“ZHA’s Hydrogen Refuel boating stations will be built with unreinforced low-energy digital concrete. With structural strength arising from geometry rather than engineered materials, we found a connection between the established past of ancient construction techniques and advanced sustainable, circular technologies. This reflects NatPower-H’s dedication to an ecologically responsible future,“ said Filippo Innocenti, Director of Zaha Hadid Architects.
For the project, locally sourced materials like sand and earth will be used, along with sustainable cement, not only minimizing the ecological impact but also allowing for the creation of organic shapes that blend in with the surroundings and the marine landscape of the station locations.
