We are excited to announce the “AI Creative Challenge 4.0”, a global event that brings architects and designers together to push the boundaries of AI-driven design in architecture. The Challenge is to harness the capabilities of these AI tools to quickly ideate, visualize, and create conceptually impressive architectural designs. Highlighting the importance of human prompting and imagination. AI tools like Midjourney, Stable Difusion, and Dalle3 are essential for this competition because they enable rapid design iteration and visualisation, fostering a deeper understanding of AI’s creative potential. By participating in this groundbreaking event, designers will join a dynamic community of professionals dedicated to advancing architectural design through AI-driven innovation.

Participation Guidelines

  • Get the Challenge Topic
    We will have a 30-minute introductory panel with jury members to announce the challenge topic and design criteria. You can register for the event using this link.
  • Join PA Digital Membership to submit your project.
    The challenge will be available for PA Digital Members. If you’re not a Digital member yet? Sign up for our Digital Membership Program to gain access and submit your project.
  • 3 Days Challenge Sprint
    Participants will have 3 days to submit their final design via a PA Submission Portal, including their contact information, design images, and other relevant notes.
  • Jury Review
    The Jury will check all works and pick 3 Winners and 5 Honorable mention projects.
  • Winner Announcement
    Join the winner’s announcement ceremony.

Submission Requirements

Please Submit your final design via the PA Submission Portal, You will need to submit three different images, one bird’s eye or drone view showing overall design context and two other eye level Perspective views for human’s perspective showing design interventions and human experience aspects . Please ensure all uploaded images are in the required format, as following:

Submission Format
Submission require three main files as part of the competition entry with image prompts and project description: 

  • Project Title and Description.
    Short paragraph up to a 100-word short paragraph describing your motivation and philosophy behind the topic and site selection.
  • First Image: “Bird’s Eye View or Drone view”.
    Name your file as ‘NameSurname_AICC4_Image_1.png’
    Aspect Ratio 1:1
  • Second Image: “ Eye level Perspective”.
    Name your file as ‘NameSurname_AICC4_Image_2.png’
    Aspect Ratio 1:1
  • Third Image: “ Eye level Perspective”.
    Name your file as ‘NameSurname_AICC4_Image_3.png’
    Aspect Ratio 1:1
  • (Optional) “AI-Generated short Video or GIF”.

Rules

  • The competition is Free for Digital Members to submit their projects.
  • Anybody working with ParametricArchitecture or associated with us is not eligible to participate or receive awards in competitions hosted on ParametricArchitecture. That includes working employees at ParametricArchitecture, jury members, community moderators or contract agencies, and their direct relatives.
  • The participants or teams will be disqualified in case of unethical practices or disregarding other competition rules.
  • Contacting the jury is strictly prohibited.
  • Plagiarism of any idea/design/image/text will be disqualified with a notice.
  • All images should be generated by AI tools such as Midjourney, DALLE-2, Stable Diffusion, etc.

Evaluation Criteria:

It will be announced during the introductory panel on February 16, 2024, with the Challenge topic.

Cas Esbach

Architect and Project Leader At MVRDV’s Rotterdam office.

Cas Esbach is a project leader and architect located in MVRDV’s Rotterdam Office. With a rich professional background that includes positions at Derksen|Windt in Delft, Civic Projects in Chicago, and BIG in New York, Cas has been an integral part of the MVRDV team in Rotterdam for over five years. He has significantly contributed to and led numerous impactful projects during his tenure. His notable achievements include successful projects such as the Shenzhen Terraces, Tripolis Park in Amsterdam, and Valley in Amsterdam. Additionally, Cas has served as an esteemed educator, bringing his expertise to the academic realm as a dedicated teacher at TU Delft, where he imparts his knowledge and passion for architecture to the next generation of professionals.

Ozan Ertug

Co-founder of Synthetic Architecture

Ozan graduated from Yildiz Technical University Faculty of Architecture In 2006. During his 20+ year professional career, he dedicated 3 years working on ecological structures. He is the co-founder of Synthetic Architecture. He particularly focuses on computer-aided design, intelligent simulation, production technologies, and interactive spatial planning strategies. Their research centers around how architects and AI/machines can collaboratively achieve autonomous building simulation, documentation, and construction processes.

Pinar Ongun

Co-founder of Synthetic Architecture

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Architecture in 2011, Pınar worked on timber construction for four years and obtained a Master’s degree in Architectural Design from Bilgi University in 2015. During this period, she received 3 awards in national architectural competitions. Until 2020, she was a lecturer, teaching architectural design studio courses at various universities for four years.She’s the co-founder of Synthetic Architecture. Working on ways of seeing in AI-aided architecture, Pinar conducts research on artificial intelligence concerning what is seen and beyond.

Will Garner

Architect, Director and Generative AI Consultant 

Will Garner is best known as an early adopter of AI in design, emphasizing its transformative power alongside Parametric Architecture. His expertise spans AI Ideation and Creative Design Direction, AI Workshops and Training, and AI Research and Custom Model Training. Will has collaborated with notable clients like Precht and Tekuma Frenchman, demonstrating his capacity to innovate at the intersection of technology and design. He has shared his insights at esteemed venues, including Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF), Fosters + Partners, and Architech—network, contributing significantly to the discourse on AI’s role in design. With a commitment to education and innovation, Will has cultivated a significant following of over 50,000 on Instagram, where he hopes to push the boundaries of what’s possible in architectural design using AI. Will now runs an AI practice focused on helping individuals and organizations unleash the power of AI for design. His approach is marked by a humble dedication to collaboration and lifelong learning, positioning him as a pivotal figure in advancing AI-powered design.

Intellectual Property

All competition materials will be saved in the ParametricArchitecture Competitions files. ParametricArchitecture will have complete rights to publish and promote this material while always crediting the designers. The material could also be used on the platform for merchandising and exhibitions.

The authors of the projects will retain full rights to their designs for any other purpose and will be asked to grant permission. By submitting a proposal, you grant ParametricArchitecture permission to use the material received in both printed and online publications.

ParametricArchitecture Competitions will also have the option to slightly modify any of the above-mentioned materials to better adapt them to the various formats and layouts that various publications may have.
