Toronto’s skyline has a new addition, the SkyTower at Pinnacle One Yonge, which rises to 106 storeys, making it the tallest residential building in Canada. Standing roughly 352 meters tall, the tower became one of the most visible symbols of the city’s rapid urban growth and changing architectural identity.

The project is part of the larger Pinnacle One Yonge development located at the edge of Toronto’s waterfront. Built on the site of the former Toronto Star property, the development will eventually include several towers combining residential units, hotel space, offices, retail areas, and community facilities. The plan reflects a shift toward mixed-use urban districts where living, working, and leisure are integrated into one neighborhood.

When complete, the SkyTower will reach approximately 351–352 meters, or about 1,154 feet. That height places it above all other occupied buildings in Canada and slightly above the observation level of the nearby CN Tower. However, the CN Tower itself remains much taller as a broadcast structure.

Toronto-based firm Hariri Pontarini Architects designed the tower. Its architecture is shaped as a tapered, 12-sided form that gradually narrows as it rises, giving the building a sculpted profile on the skyline. The design transitions from a podium at street level into a slender vertical tower, creating a distinctive shape that stands out among the city’s growing cluster of super-tall buildings.

Inside, the building will accommodate more than 900 residential units along with amenities such as a fitness center, pool, and entertainment spaces. The lower levels will also include a hotel, adding another layer of activity to the building and reinforcing the mixed-use concept that defines the larger development.

Construction on the project began in 2018 as part of a multi-phase redevelopment plan. The first tower of the complex, a 65-storey residential building called Prestige, was completed in 2022. The SkyTower represents the second phase, while additional towers planned for the site will continue to reshape Toronto’s waterfront in the coming years.

Beyond its height, the project reflects a broader trend in Toronto’s urban planning. The city has seen a surge in high-rise residential development as population growth and housing demand push developers to build upward. Projects like SkyTower are intended to bring thousands of new homes into the downtown core while strengthening connections between the waterfront and the rest of the city.

As the tower approaches completion, it marks a moment when Toronto’s skyline is becoming denser and more vertical than ever. The 106-storey SkyTower is also an indication of how the city is redefining its urban form in the 21st century.
