The PATalks interview series is one of the most popular podcasts in the architecture and design world. Where we sit down with the pioneers of the industry and talk about their careers, design methodologies, tools and technologies, new techniques of manufacturing, and visions for the future. As we come to the end of the year, here we present the best of PATalks 2021, some of the most informative interviews we did this year. Hope you like them!

1: PA Talks 45 – Robert McNeel

Episode 45, the first-ever long-form interview with Robert McNeel is the number one in the best of PATalks 2021. He is the founder, and CEO of Robert McNeel & Associates, the company behind Rhinoceros 3D, one of the most favorite software among designers. In this exclusive interview with Hamid Hassanzadeh, founder and editor in chief of PA, Robert McNeel describes his early career, professions before establishing the company, and what led them to build this new software. McNeel also explained RhinoInside, the new feature in the software, and shared ideas about the upcoming features such as Grasshopper 2 and the integration of 3D Printing software in Rhino and Grasshopper.

2: PA Talks 41 – Soomeen Hahm

Soomeen Hahm joined us for episode 41 of the PATalks. Soomeen is a design researcher, educator, architectural designer, and the founder of SoomeenHahm Design Ltd. She gained her Bachelor of Architecture degree at the Beijing Tsinghua University and her Master of Architecture degree at the Architectural Association. After her graduation, she delved into generative and algorithmic design using computer coding, interactive/responsive environments, and digital fabrication processes.

3: PA Talks 42 – Nuru Karim

We were delighted to host Indian architect, Nuru Karim, for episode 42. Nuru is the founder and principal of NUDES, an architecture studio that operates within the realm of cross-disciplinary cultures of art, architecture, and computational design. The practice’s design is powered by digital making tools that address extensive social, cultural, and environmental networks. Karim received his Master’s degree from Architectural Association London. He has worked for Zaha Hadid Architects in 2005, and his design studies include travel and education in the metropolises of Mumbai, Montreal, and London.

4: PA Talks 37 – Arthur Mamou-Mani

Our guest for PATalks 37 was Arthur Mamou-Mani which is the number four in the best of PATalks 2021. He is a London-based French architect and director of the award-winning architecture practice Mamou-Mani. His practice specializes in a new kind of digitally designed and fabricated architecture. He is also a lecturer at the University of Westminster and has given numerous talks around the world on “Eco-Parametric” architectural practice which includes two TedX conferences in the U.S. and France.

5: PA Talks 38 – Erick Carcamo

Episode 38 with Erick Carcamo is number five in the list of best of PATalks 2021. Erick joined us from Los Angeles, USA, to discuss his academic and practice life in architecture, and the importance of using new digital tools in design. Erick Cárcamo is the Principal and co-founder of  Allblackform – an international practice based in Los Angeles. Erick has taught numerous design studios and visual studies seminars at various universities, both in the USA and Europe, recently including Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Southern California Institute of Architecture, UPenn School of Design, and previously has taught at Yale School of Architecture, GSAPP, IoA, Institute of Architecture at the university of applied arts, in Vienna, Lund Technical University in Sweden, among others.
