Robotic Fabrication Simulation - Studio Claudia Campuzano

Introduction to Robotic Fabrication Simulation:

In this workshop, you’ll learn to anticipate and simulate fabrication outcomes before engaging with actual manufacturing tools. You’ll learn how to simulate robotic movements interacting with physical objects, enabling the exploration of computational dynamic forms. This process enables us to effectively evaluate the application of these forms at an architectural scale.

The Scope of Robotic Fabrication Simulation:

This workshop consists of two parts:

Part 1. Simulation Workflow Development

  • Forward Kinematic Model: Using Grasshopper, you will create a kinematic model of an industrial arm robot to simulate the movement of each axis of the robot.
  • Material-Physics Simulation: Using Flexhopper within Grasshopper, you will build a particle-based physics model to achieve precise material behavior and interaction with collision geometries.

Intersection of Robotics and Physics Simulation:

Part 2. Visualization of Simulation Outcome

  • Workflow Visualization: Visualize the entire simulation workflow through a sequence of Grasshopper animations.
  • Architectural Scale Application: Visualize the application of the resulting dynamic forms at an Architectural scale utilizing Rendering Software: Unreal Engine 5.4

Objectives of Robotic Fabrication Simulation:

This workshop will help you understand the motion of each axis of an industrial robotic arm. In combination with a material-physics simulation, you will learn to build a digital fabrication workflow that allows for easy prototyping.

Program:

Day 1:

  • Lecture: Digital Fabrication
