Introduction to Curvilinear Concepts 2.0:

This workshop explores Midjourney to create interesting, invigorating, and curvilinear forms and 3D Modelling using Autodesk Maya. We will also learn to prepare files to fabricate models on Bambu Studio.

In this workshop, the students will work on creating curvilinear architectural forms, much like MAD Architects/Zaha Hadid Architects (For reference only), using generative artificial intelligence and then use the generated form to create a unique geometry on a 3D Modelling tool, in particular, Rhino 3D and Autodesk Maya.

Prompt-crafting using Midjourney develops concepts for sophisticated and complex building design. Using an iterative process, we will arrive at our desired results, which can be highly iterative for precise results.

We will also explore how we can set up a file on a Digital Fabrication/3D Printing software like Bambu Studio.
A few examples, which include a high-density housing complex, a Google campus, etc.

The Scope of Curvilinear Concepts 2.0:

In this workshop we will use Midjourney to create curvilinear or fluid forms, this can be from product to city scale and then we will use the generated form and replicate/modify it on Autodesk Maya/Rhinoceros, we will then proceed to set up a part or full file on Bambu Studio to learn how we can 3D Print models depending on scale from product to building scale. We will make sure that our geometry is clean, easy to handle, and 3D Printable.

The students will be given a general tutorial on how to use Midjourney and then given time to generate interesting, complex, and sophisticated forms/images on Midjourney, most likely a large-scale architectural project. Each student can focus on developing different parts of the project, for example: Façade, Landscaping, Interiors, Furniture, Lighting, Textures, etc.

We will quickly dive into Maya and/or Rhinoceros initially to get the hang of the tool with a specific form, procedural 3D Modelling from a primitive polygon, or using Rhino 3D from line drawing to 3D Model using simple commands to come up with a very interesting form.

Thereafter, the exercise will be combinatorial, using the generated form and replicating/altering it on the 3D Modelling tool. The students will then learn to set up the file on Bambu Studio to prepare for digital fabrication/slicing with details such as support, material, print speed, and scale taken into consideration.

Prabhat Arora

Prabhat Arora is a London-based Architect, Designer, and Wellbeing Professional. He holds an exceptional talent endorsement from the Arts Council England. He is a former Architectural Designer at Zaha Hadid Architects and holds a Master’s in Architecture and Urbanism from the Architectural Association Design Research Laboratory: Schumacher Studio. At Zaha Hadid Architects, he was involved with Neom Trojena and Oystra, Marjan Island.

He explored Agent-Based Parametric Semiology for his Master’s Thesis. Prabhat designed and built his first Architectural project at 22 years of age at IIT Madras. His interests lie in Parametricism, Complex Geometry Modelling, 3D printing, and Semiotics. Prabhat has been using Unity, Maya, Grasshopper, Keyshot, and Enscape to develop high-end projects. He has recently been involved in large-scale 3D Printing and is currently working on high-end architectural projects in the Middle East with Kettle Collective.
