Australia’s Minister for Trade and Tourism revealed the Australian Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan. Australian architectural firm Buchan will design a pavilion under the theme “Chasing the Sun.”
The pavilion is designed to reflect the central theme of the Expo, which revolves around the development and implementation of sustainable co-creation practices. With the main theme of “Designing Future Society for our Lives” and sub-themes including “Saving Lives,” “Empowering Lives,” and “Connecting Lives,” the pavilion specifically focuses on sustainability, First Nations priorities, regional collaboration, gender equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Australian Pavilion at Expo 2025: “Chasing the Sun”
The main focus has been given to including Indigenous perspectives and experiences in the pavilion in a collaborative effort with Indigenous consultancy Karrda. The design draws inspiration from the colors of Australia’s iconic eucalyptus trees, symbolizing the diversity of the country.
“Inside the Australia Pavilion, visitors will embark on a one-of-a-kind immersive adventure following the sun across Australia. This multisensory experience will allow visitors to hear the sounds of our unique fauna, gaze into the night sky, and celebrate our ocean environment, while also helping visitors to understand First Nations’ connection to Country over tens of thousands of years and how this ancient knowledge can help us build a future society.”
The event will start on 13 April 2025 and closing 13 October 2025. Sou Fujimoto to design Expo’s masterplan. Also, several other countries have also announced their participation at the Expo 2025. DP Architects revealed their design for the Singapore Pavilion, Aleatek Studio will be responsible for designing the Serbia Pavilion, the Kuwait Pavilion will be designed by LAVA, the UK Pavilion will be a collaborative effort between Woo Architects and Japanese contractor ES Global, and Carlo Ratti Associati and Coldefy have been selected to design the French Pavilion for Expo Osaka 2025.
