Introduction

Adaptive Fashion: Procedural Design with Bio-Materials

The “Adaptive Fashion: Procedural Design with Bio-Materials” workshop will explore innovative design methodologies merging data-driven geometries using bio-materials. This workshop will focus on creating adaptive, second-skin textiles for the human body. Through AI tools like Midjourney for concept generation, parametric design with Grasshopper, and rendering with Blender, attendees will learn to generate complex patterns and material recipes that respond to environmental data, enhancing functionality and sustainability in fashion design.

Program:

Day 1:

  • Introductive lecture
  • Midjourney – AI tools for design exploration
  • Grasshopper –  surface analysis and use of external data
  • Grasshopper – Generation structure based on single data
  • Q&A

Day 2:

  • Grasshopper – Generation structure based on multiple data
  • Grasshopper – Generation of material recipes
  • Blender- Rendering
  • Q&A
Here, you can find a list of what to download before the workshop.

Laura Civetti is a Fashion tech designer focused on Computational design and material innovation for Circular design in the fashion industry. Believing in the symbiotic connection between materials and design as a sustainable methodology, in 2022, she founded Mattertex, a start-up oriented on renewable materials and additive manufacturing.

Laura’s professional journey started as an intern at the Iris Van Herpen Atelier in Amsterdam. A year later, at Noumena Group, She was exploring wearable technology projects until becoming Head Fashion tech designer, working on design research projects oriented in material development and additive manufacturing for the body. During her years at Noumena, She was also the Coordinator of the Reshape design platform, a design contest, and an event to seek emerging designers for future industries. In 2020, She joined Materfad-Centre of Materials Barcelona as a Project manager supporting companies in the research and development of new materials. She is also participating as a content author for material innovation in the educational programs at the School of Ward. She is a Senior designer at Nagami, fostering the link between computational design and additive manufacturing.
