SOM Architects has officially commenced construction on the CIMC global headquarters in Qianhai district, Shenzhen. Working alongside China International Marine Containers Group, this 270-metre tower is set to become an architectural landmark in the rapidly growing city.

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill won the global architectural competition to design this corporate office, drawing inspiration from the mountainous landscapes as depicted in traditional Chinese art. With CIMC’s commitment towards sustainability, the project is aiming to achieve LEED and WELL platinum accreditations.

The campus will include a sky garden capturing the picturesque view of Qianhai Bay harmoniously blending with the urban fabric. The stepped podium design accommodates a sunlit atrium that connects employees to the retail and dining spaces while also providing direct access to the Shenzhen’s subway system.

A Tower of Innovation and Sustainability

The tower will accommodate 53 storeys of workspaces where the visitors can approach the second floor through landscaped walkways enjoying the green scenescape.

Additionally, the construction will integrate energy-saving solutions such as smart daylight sensing and emission reduction strategies to achieve the Three-Star Green Building certification while striving to create healthy workspaces.

Future of workspaces is no longer about being stuck in concrete boxes but rather now companies are inclining more towards creating dynamic spaces incorporating natural and smart technological elements. SOM have worked on various workspace designs previously marking CIMC Global Headquarters as one of their finest projects in China.

The project is expected to be completed by 2029 poised to cater to 60,000 employees incorporating corporate architecture and cutting-edge sustainability practices.
