New Milan Trade Fair Rho-Pero, by @fuksas_architects in Milan, Italy. Fuksas dealt with the expansiveness of the 8 separate structures by orienting them inwards towards the central spine covered with a glass canopy that functions akin to that of a central street. In order to demarcate the various functions of the buildings, the exhibition halls have orange facades facing towards the canopy, the restaurants and cafes that line the open air corridor feature curvilinear facades and stand on pillars, the meeting halls feature stainless steel cladding and hover at walkway height, and the office spaces are contained within glass boxes that line the walkway.

Temple of Light by Patkau Architects resembles an

Temple of Light by Patkau Architects resembles an upside-down petals forming large roof structure which inhabits a large space for gathering, is a sanctuary and a meeting place for the Yasodhara Ashram in Canada. The building is overlooking Kootenay Lake from the cliff top.
After a devastating fire in 2014, the architects used the existing foundation from the previous building to construct an undulating, curvilinear space. Reusing the existing elements meant that the project was able to reduce cost, boosting sustainability to the community by preserving good condition materials.

Shiver House, designed by @neonstudio_uk , is a radical reinvention of the common Finnish Hut (mökki). The project is a kinetic “animal like” structure which moves and adapts in response to surrounding natural forces. Shiver House is an exploration into the idea that architecture can be used as a means to create a closer emotional link between its inhabitants and the natural world it sits within. In addition, the project explores the idea that architecture can be made to seem “alive” with the intention that this will engender a deeper and longer lasting emotional relationship between people and the structures we inhabit.

MU:M Office Building / Wise Architecture. Entirely covered with black brick, the building has a twisted rectangular shape, and its entrance defined by the incised surface of the distorted structure makes it difficult to distinguish between the front and the back. In contrast to the torn entrance, 2m×2m large windows are installed as openings in order to enhance the sense of openness on the lower floors.

Once again the use of Parametric design tools has

Once again the use of Parametric design tools has proven to provide a curvy wooden structure that is both light and transportable. Designed by Downtown Studio for a street library in Bulgaria called Rapana, is a semicircle that stores books on wooden moduled-shelves and allows the exchange of books. Brought to life by a team of young architects and designers, they wanted to encourage reading books in this digital era we are entirely based in by building a public library.

The city of Varna, located on the seaside, gave the inspiration to the young designers to construct the shell of a sea snail. The team tested over 20 varying formations with tools like Rhinoceros and Grasshopper by changing the vertical and horizontal numbers, height and width of the structure. The structure ended up providing seating areas, shelving for book exchange but also shelter to visitors.

Rounds, a temporary theatre pavilion, was 2016 winning design for Ragdale Ring International Design-build competition designed by SPORTS. A playful yet habitable space encourages the visitors to use the undulating rings as either a stage for performances or seatings, achieving an open brief for users. The largest ring is designed as the main stage, while other rings can be broken down and distributed across the ring for varying performances.

Kupla – Helsinki Zoo Lookout Tower in #Helsinki #Finland 🇫🇮 by Avanto Architects / Ville Hara and Anu Puustinen.

The load bearing structure consists of 72 long battens with a section of 60mmx60mm that are bent and twisted on the site from seven pre-bent types. As the tower has no structural protection against weathering, it is treated with a linen oil-based wood balm with UV-protection.

Confluence Park Pavilion in #SanAntonio #Texas made of concrete petals designed by Lake|Flato Architects + Matsys Design | 2018. Constructed of concrete petals designed thoughtfully to sit lightly upon the land, the BHP Pavilion— the main pavilion— forms a geometry that collects and funnels rainwater into a sitewide water catchment system. The pavilions throughout the park provide shade and shelter, simultaneously engaging visitors to visualize the cycle of water at Confluence Park and how it relates directly to the San Antonio Rivershed.
