Norwegian Ocean Technology Center is located in the Tyholt neighborhood of Trondheim, Norway. The 49.000 sqm center will have world-class laboratories and research facilities and will be a center of gravity within ocean space technology. The center is currently under construction and expected to be completed in 2028.

The Norwegian Ocean Technology Center consists of three buildings that will house both wet and dry laboratories featuring ocean pools, construction facilities, machine laboratories, educational facilities, and meeting rooms. The main building of the project will contain research and education facilities. The second building will house Flewlab, a place for small-scale testing, while the third building will contain machine laboratories, workshops, and storage. The buildings have wavy facades which represent nature’s rhythm.

“Reflecting the center’s ambition to become a hub for research and innovation activities related to ocean space, the new Ocean Technology Centre has ambitious environmental goals for its new knowledge center, aiming for BREEAM Excellent certification,” stated Snohetta.

Trondheim’s City Council gave its approval to the regulatory plan in September 2021. However, Statsbygg decided to split the project into three separate contracts, and some alterations were made to the building inventory. Construction of Wing B, the Pool Building, will be handled solely by Snohetta in partnership with HENT.
