The MoLo, or Mobility and Logistic hub, is a new entryway located along the western perimeter of the Milano Innovation District. MAD Architects, led by Ma Yansong, designed the MoLo project in partnership with Open Project, Progeca, and architect Andrea Nonni. MoLo is 68,700 square meters in area and 28.5 meters tall and houses many facilities. The MoLo, which combines architecture and environment, serves as a welcome entry and a venue for teaching about mobility-related concerns. Visitors may leave their cars and walk around the neighborhood to learn about cutting-edge transportation technologies.

The project stands on top of a five-story parking tower accommodating 1,500 automobiles and has seven above-ground floors and one below. It also has 3000 square meters of ground-floor commercial space, offices, labs, and a supermarket. The project is “a gateway for people entering from the Rho municipality and other important highways along the western part of Milano Innovation District – MIND.”

The infrastructure project, which unites two municipalities, is scheduled to start building in September 2022. A public interchange tunnel would blur urban boundaries, and an open gallery will physically attempt to link the MoLo to the neighboring Rho-Arese park.

The project will feature a lush green façade in keeping with the new district’s dedication to sustainability and 21st-century technical advancements, merging into the natural landscape of its surroundings while absorbing airborne carbon. Also, An adequate supply of renewable energy for the neighborhood will be provided by a photovoltaic field of panels covering more than 8,000 square meters on the top surfaces. And will be created in compliance with the LEED green building certification program and erected within a prefabricated concrete frame using the Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) process.
