California-based architecture office Architects Orange (AO) designed an approximately 530-meter-tall skyscraper for Oklahoma City, known as The Boardwalk at Bricktown. If built, it would be the country’s second tallest building. This makes it a little shorter than One World Trade Center in New York City, which is approximately 541.3 meters.
The supertall skyscraper will feature restaurants, shops, and a Hyatt Dream Hotel. As The Architect’s Newspaper reported, Siemens and Thornton Tomasetti are the project engineers and also developed by Scot Matteson. It would be more than twice the height of the Devon Energy Center, OKC’s current tallest building.
A new skyscraper in Oklahoma City is set to be built just one block away from a proposed location for a $900 million arena that will become the home of the NBA’s OKC Thunder. The project will span 3.5 million square feet (325,160 square meters) of building area, spread over 4 acres of land. Also, as reported, the arena will replace the Cox Convention Center and is approved by the Oklahoma City Council.
The project’s renderings also showcase plans for a 17,000-square-foot (1,580 square meter) lagoon on the premises and a 57,000-square-foot (5,295 square meter) podium rooftop to cap off the upcoming basketball arena. The first phase of construction for the project could commence as early as next year.
