Tower of the Sun, designed by Ma Yansong of MAD Architects, is a featured exhibit at the Guangzhou Design Triennial, which is open to visitors at the Guangdong Museum of Art until 31 May 2024.

The “Tower of the Sun” is a concept for futuristic urban living and contains a crystal tree that grows upwards and releases bubbles that gradually change color from orange to yellow, creating residential units that appear to float above the city. The transparent nanomaterial skin of the bubble allows sunlight to penetrate freely, enabling natural light to flow into the residence.

This imaginative art installation is located in the atrium of the Guangdong Museum of Art. It cleverly aligns with the theme of the Triennale and creates a warm public space that attracts people of all ages, classes, and regions to gather and experience the reality and fantasy that collide to open up endless imagination.

“Tower of the Sun” is currently on display at the Guangdong Museum of Art until May 31, 2024.

The tower measures 12 x 9.2 x 8 meters and is made of mirror stainless steel and PVC soft film. It was designed by Ma Yansong with Dang Qun, Hayano Yosuke, Huang Juntao, Zheng Chengwen, and Zhang Zhonglin on the design team.
