Kevin Kelly Architects (KKA) announced that their Arbor Pavilion has been selected as one of the finalists from more than 40 submissions in a contest for a new residential development in Cambridge.
The Arbor Pavilion showcases KKA’s skill in blending natural principles with state-of-the-art design. Drawing inspiration from the intricate structures of leaves and the architectural grace of fan vaults, the pavilion consists of a series of carefully crafted Corten steel canopies designed to encourage a play of light and shadow. The pavilion enriches the visual appeal of its surroundings and functions as a versatile community space, encouraging interaction and inclusivity.

The design of the pavilion takes inspiration from Cambridge’s architectural legacy, specifically the distinctive fan vaults of King’s Chapel, while integrating state-of-the-art digital manufacturing methods. The use of recycled Corten steel not only guarantees longevity and minimal upkeep but also supports KKA’s commitment to sustainability, lessening the structure’s impact on the environment.
KKA is thrilled to collaborate with esteemed clients such as Kew Gardens, The Royal Albert Hall, and The LLDC (Olympic Park). The “Arbor” Pavilion represents another significant achievement for the firm, demonstrating its capacity to deliver top-notch, culturally appropriate architecture through advanced digital design.
