In light of skyrocketing usage within the developer community, the question of trust in Artificial Intelligence is front and center. Critical findings in this area were underlined in the Google DevOps Report: According to Google Cloud’s 2024 DevOps Research and Assessment, more than 75% of software developers and IT professionals are using AI for at least one daily work task.

While this indeed is a striking figure, the report also warns of several risks associated with the convenience and speed AI offers. Based on the responses from approximately 3,000 technology professionals, AI is helping developers with tasks such as generating code, summarizing information, and explaining code functions.

“Our data suggest that improving the development process does not automatically improve software delivery — at least not without proper adherence to the basics of successful software delivery, like small batch sizes and robust testing mechanisms,” the researchers said.

AI Adoption Gains Momentum

Over 75% of Developers Trust Artificial Intelligence

According to ZD News Report, 81% of the respondents said their companies are investing resources in AI-driven development processes, while 67% said AI has enhanced the quality of their code. The result of this adoption is a 7.5% improvement in the quality of the documentation, with a 3.4% increase in code quality and code review times 3.1% faster. There is a further decrease of 1.8% in code complexity, while these percentages may sound modest individually; put together, they will amount to big gains in efficiency.

It does mention, however, one drawback: with AI adoption, there has been some reduction in stability concerning project delivery. According to the results, the delivery speed went down by 1.5%, while the delivery stability dropped 7.2%. Furthermore, 39% of the participants were concerned about the reliability of AI-generated code, thus underlining that teams must be very careful with AI integration management.
