OPENCALL 2025: Vertico Greenfield Residency

Vertico is officially announcing the second edition of the Greenfield Residency, an open invitation to academic institutions worldwide to bring their experimental ideas into real-world production using industrial-scale robotic technology. This annual initiative continues Vertico’s commitment to supporting innovation in architecture, design, and digital fabrication.

Hosted at Vertico’s Eindhoven facility, the residency is designed to give students direct access to advanced robotic systems rarely available in academic environments. Following the success of the 2024 edition, this year’s program continues Vertico’s mission to support experimental research in architecture, design, and robotic fabrication.

The Greenfield Residency is a hands-on, production-based opportunity where selected students and researchers will develop, refine, and physically produce their projects over one intensive week at Vertico’s Eindhoven facility. This is where concepts become real, where robotics and design meet, and where teams can push boundaries with direct access to large-scale fabrication systems.

Vertico Greenfield Residency Goals

The primary goal is simple: give students access to tools they normally wouldn’t have, particularly advanced robotic arms used in architectural manufacturing. Vertico’s mission with this residency is to bridge the gap between academia and industry by providing a platform for experimentation, learning, and real-world application.

While participants are welcome to use Vertico’s 3D concrete printing systems, this isn’t a limitation. The open call encourages all forms of robotic production from additive manufacturing to subtractive processes, hybrid techniques, or even completely new experimental methods. The emphasis is on innovation, exploration, and interaction with robotic systems in meaningful ways.

What’s Included

The residency includes:

  • Full week of production at Vertico in Eindhoven (First week of November 2025; flexible scheduling)
  • Access to Vertico’s robotic manufacturing systems
  • On-site support from the Vertico team
  • Use of software tools such as Rhinoceros3D and Grasshopper3D
  • Opportunity to build and test full-scale prototypes

There is no predefined format or topic; each institution is free to propose its own concept. Whether your team is interested in material experimentation, architectural elements, or pushing the limits of digital fabrication, the residency is open to it.

Who Should Apply

This call is open to academic institutions: architecture schools, design studios, research groups, and interdisciplinary programs that want to give their students a practical, high-impact experience with robotic fabrication. Priority will be given to proposals that demonstrate a clear intent to explore robotics in a novel and constructive way.
