Hill Landscape revamps neglected area into eco-friendly town

Xinghe Mingzhu Bay Park in Puning City aims to redefine the area near the foot of Danan Mountain next to Hanma Lake. Designed by Hill Landscape, this new development is a park and a vision for a new city, an eco-friendly town that blends local Chaoshan culture with contemporary urban needs.

The project aims to create a small town that will combine educational, commercial, cultural, and recreational facilities with residential buildings. Hill Landscape’s landscape design takes inspiration from Chaoshan and Qingmei culture, Han Ma folk stories, and Chaoren spirit. The idea is to design an environment that is not only multicultural but also contemporary.

Park Features

Xinghe Mingzhu Bay Park is designed to be a lakeside retreat for people to relax. It also serves as a public space for leisure, sports, and community activities. The park will be an integral part of the new urban landscape, being a sanctuary for both relaxation and active recreation. The Hill team, responsible for the park’s redesign, worked closely on the initial plans. They are majestically involved in reconstructing various central features of the park, like the avenue, the landscape bridge, the lakeside road, the boardwalk, and the sports area. All these changes, therefore, intend to enhance the park layout and make it the new central landmark for Puning.

The preliminary research indicated that the site had an abundance of natural resources, including water and vegetation, but the landscape of the existing site was outdated and did not serve the community well. Issues such as poorly planned roads, underdeveloped features around the lake, and vegetation that concealed the views were also noted. The design team redesigned the entrance and the access roads to the entire complex to increase accessibility.

The design included a distinctive landscape bridge to serve as a memorable landmark for the park. They added observation platforms and improved the lakeside trails to enhance the experience of the viewers and to interconnect the various parts of the park. It was created with a Green Landscape Avenue with camphor trees, cypress trees, and kapok trees. This avenue has the importance of being a major corridor that is used to connect residential and business states. The landscape design of the building features a path that is covered with trees, while other special zones in the middle are grand green spaces avoiding contact with outside greens.

The Star River Bridge is another attraction; however, it is movable for walking, Jogging, Cycling and Cars. There is also an observation deck predominantly for the tourists to view the natural environment. During the night, the flexible light strips are switched on and highlight the bridge over the lake and making it a plus to the park.

Infrastructure Improvements

The park also includes the expansion of current roads, incorporation of slow lanes as well as the development of scenic nodes. Shrubs and trees grew around the lake and have been pruned to minimize the obstruction of the water body. There is an observation platform built along Huanhu Road to ensure that the residents can take a break to admire the view. The color of the observation platforms is bright orange, which, in combination with the blue of the lake and the greenery, sets a good contrast and allows clear directions to the park.

Huanhu Road connects various features of the park, including landscape bridges, observation platforms, and Pearl Amusement Park. Pearl Park in the west side is the children’s park with play areas like a grassy step area and a sand pool. The park also has spaces for outdoor activities like football, basketball, tennis and others to encourage community interaction and provide diverse recreational options. The redesigned park aims to transform the area, which is currently neglected, into a vibrant space where people can get involved with nature, culture, and other people. The park seeks to achieve an efficient traffic network, increase the amenities, and to create better scenic areas so as to become the new and active core of the community.
