BWM Designers & Architects has just unveiled the design for the Austrian Pavilion at Expo Osaka 2025. Entitled “Austria – Creating the Future,” the pavilion focused on a journey through Austria’s heritage, especially on music and its evolution into the future.

Expo 2025 Osaka/Kansai offers exciting opportunities for Austria to deepen our long-standing relationships with Japan, promote positive change, and showcase innovative solutions that connect people and the planet. This collaboration builds on the SDGs, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and the growing global consensus on them.

Ursula Plassnik, Commissioner General of Austria

At the center of the design is a spiral structure resembling an enlarged musical staff, constructed from wooden slats and spiraling upward. This structure serves as a visual focal point and guides visitors through the extensive exhibition.

The World Expo in Osaka offers an unimagined number of opportunities for the Austrian economy. For my company, Japan is already an important and potent market and we hope to be able to strengthen this even more through Expo 2025.

Gernot Maier, CEO Schoeller Münzhandel GmbH

The pavilion, which showcases Austria’s “musical journey,” highlights the key concept of sustainability through its construction and content. Constructed mainly from wood, the spiral sculpture aims to display Austrian artistry and emphasize the economic relations between Austria and Japan. Also, the pavilion contains three display areas, while the upper floors are designated for offices, gatherings, and culinary activities.
