Having seen a high demand for world-class residential units at first of the two buildings, Bjarke Ingels Group designed for Mandarin Oriental Residences, Saadiyat Cultural District in Abu Dhabi, Aldar has revealed the interior renders of the next building in its press release in March 2025. The second development featuring 113 top-tier apartments and world-class amenities, whose interiors are conceptualized by New York-based Lilian Wu Studio, is expected to attract more potential buyers than the initial development.
The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group had laid the cornerstone for this interior design project, prior to it, with another press release in October last year. The October 2024 press release stated that the Mandarin Oriental Group is set to launch its luxurious residences, Mandarin Oriental Residences, in collaboration with Aldar in the Saadiyat Cultural District, notably opening its account in Abu Dhabi. According to the press release, Mandarin Oriental Residences was planned to be established in the heart of the Saadiyat Culture District, an abode of architectural wonders, in proximity to the Zayed National Museum and its fountains.

The following news updates from the concerned parties revealed that the Bjarke Ingels Group will handle the architecture of this premier apartment, while Lilian Wu Studio will articulate its interiors. BIG designed the two separate, generously terraced buildings, housing precisely 226 elite units of the Mandarin Oriental Residences. The tiered terraces of the two buildings facing each other progressively grow outwards from the top like mountains, creating a valley in the middle between the two buildings and capturing the scenic view of the Zayed National Museum with its fountains.

The recently revealed second building of the development houses elegantly designed apartments featuring one to four bedrooms and exclusive five-bedroom penthouses in addition to renowned, unparalleled amenities and wellness facilities provided by the Mandarin Oriental Group.

Addressing the residents’ mental and physical well-being, the Luxury Apartment offers a rejuvenating experience at its indoor and outdoor swimming pools, gyms, Mandarin oriental’s signature spa, and separate male and female salons, integrating them as a part of the residents’ routine.
Creating a chance to build communities encouraging social life, the property hosts a residents’ lounge, a private dining room, and Mandarin Oriental Cake Shop, also satisfying their guests’ taste-buds.

Reaping the benefit of BIG’s open plan and floor-to-ceiling windows, capturing the stunning views of not only the Zayed National Museum but also Jean Nouvel’s Louvre in Abu Dhabi and Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim in Abu Dhabi, Lilian Wu Studio has planned the interiors of the apartments and chosen the mood boards wisely to create a balance.

The overarching material palette of the interiors is dominated by natural materials and earthy tones, embellished with metal accents, bespoke pieces of furniture with rounded edges, and contemporary lighting fixtures that make the design both appealing and timeless. This neutral palette with organic forms, smooth-edged furniture, complemented by daylight entering the interiors through the floor-to-ceiling windows creates a tranquil ambiance inside the apartments of the high-end development.

Being the first space that is entered, creating the first impression of the project, the interior design of the lounge is sleek and classy, reflecting the graceful interiors of the rest of the development. The lounge area floors at the entrance are elegantly rendered in marble, enhancing the spaciousness, unlike the wooden floors in the apartments, which make the space cozier. Accent walls, metal motifs, unique lighting fixtures hanging from the ceiling, and the linear integrated lighting emphasizing the accent walls, artworks, and recessed shelves, all epitomize opulence in style.

In the apartments, while the chandeliers and other artistic motifs add elegance to the living area that blends into the dining and kitchen, forming the transitional semi-public core, the wooden floors, ceilings, and furniture add warmth. The organic contours of the kitchen and dining counters give a personal touch. The walls embodying shelving and entertainment centers come in alternating colors ranging from a variety of beige, cream, terracotta, and brown colors, breaking the monotony and creating a human scale.

On the other hand, the master bedrooms in the apartments are quite private with their spa-like bathrooms and spacious accessible terraces offering stunning views of the vibrant, thriving Saadiyat Cultural District and letting in ample amounts of daylight. The warm alcove lighting integrated into the ceilings, complemented by spotlights and pendant lighting, with recessed shelving and accent wall tiles, certainly elevates the experience in the bathrooms of the master suites.

The amenities featuring uninterrupted large glass facades are designed to promote the Zayed National Museum in the Saadiyat Cultural District. While the poolside features grey veined marble floors, which makes the space sophisticated and calm, the gym features warm flooring, which is more inviting and energizing. Breaking the monotony of the large, uninterrupted communal spaces, the designers have worked on the ceilings to add movement and life to the expansive spaces.

The magnificent interiors of the Mandarin Oriental Residences promise a pleasant stay and comfortable living. High-end furnishings, state-of-the-art lighting fixtures, and a welcoming palette of colors in the Mandarin Oriental Residences, situated in the Saadiyat Cultural District, ensure that the development is set to become one of the most sought-after addresses in the region, a word given at its inception.
