The 67-hectare masterplan called the “Unicorn Is

The 67-hectare masterplan called the “Unicorn Island” by Zaha Hadid Architects has neared its’ completion in Chengdu’s Tianfu New Area which the project got its’ name from the tech start-up companies that are worth $1 billion. Aimed as an opportunity to enchance the community’s contentment, it will host 700,000 researchers, staff, visitors and residents.
 Unicorn Island is aimed to gradually shift China’s economy from manufacturing to knowledge and services. Inhabiting the environmental strategies, this project offers great connectivity that will enable the entire island to be within a bike ride or short walking distance, water-conservation areas, urban cultivation and green spaces.
 The project is consists of a central plaza and metro station ringed by naturally-shaped clusters. Depending on the program and functionality requirements that may arise over time, the blueprint of the project might expand.

The continuous integrity and the smooth surface of the building express the topological corporate culture of the Phoenix Media. The elevation difference between the southern and northern internal spaces are able to provide quality of sunlight, ventilation and landscape view to the office towers, meanwhile avoiding glare and noises for the broadcasting room. In addition, the elevation difference also avoids blocking the sunshine to the residential building at the northern direction.

Captain this facade! The twisting bricks of Thayer Brick House by Brooks + Scarpa + Studio Dwell Architects.

The street facade is organized in vertical twisting columns to create an ever-changing pattern of opening and closing as light moves across and thru the facades. As the viewer passes by the home, the façade creates a moire-like pattern that appears to be constantly in motion. Depending on one’s location, the porous courtyard façade courtyard can appear open and welcoming while also feeling closed and private.

Minima | Maxima by MARC FORNES / @THEVERYMANY is an installation made out of 6 mm aluminum structural stripes at the World Expo 2017 in #Astana #Kazakhstan .

The project extends MARC FORNES / THEVERYMANY's research and development into achieving structural integrity through ultra-thin, self-supporting structures which find their strength in the double curvature of their form. In the whimsical yet durable universe the studio creates, curves win out over angles; branches, splits and recombinations make columns and beams irrelevant. A 'networked' surface rolls in, on and around itself, transforming into a space that obscures our preconceived notions of enclosure, entrance/exit, and threshold, while also providing its own support to stand up. The surface is ultra-thin: 6 mm aluminum. If an egg were scaled up to the same height Minima | Maxima, it would be much thicker.

“Parametric Swallow’s Nest” is a twisted mö

“Parametric Swallow’s Nest” is a twisted möbius building by @vincentcallebautarchitectures for the Taichung City Cultural Center, Public Library and Fine Arts Museum in #Taichung developed in 2013.

The strength of the concept resides in the genesis of a complex geometry for the steel structure from the repetition of standard and simple elements. Actually, the typical section in the shape of an isosceles triangle is made with three great tubular beams forming an arch. The 80 arches are linked together at their centre and their ends by mega-columns which form the main edge and spread the loads to the ground. The twist at 360 degrees of the three faces of the triangle is designed under the shape of three ruled surfaces easily adjusted and decomposable into flat panels for a more pragmatic feasibility.

Italian practice @peterpichler_architecture designs luxury “Tree Suites” as part of a new 7-star Hotel development close to #Kitzbühel, #Austria.

The form of the Tree Suites is informed by vernacular timber architecture in Austria, which has been reinterpreted "in a contemporary way". They will be built almost entirely from wood arranged as a diagrid frame – a structural system composed of beams that intersect in a diagonal pattern.

INT chair is a robotic assembly of bricks by the architecture students at the @bartlettarchucl . The design aims to introduce complexity in prefabrication.

The team looks into robotic assembly of #robotic bricks while also addressing the relation between users and robots. Through implementing feedback in the robotic assembly process, human interaction is incorporated. The design process becomes truly indeterminate and plays out in physical space, allowing for variegating degrees of customization and order. On the architectural scale, the project establishes a meaningful relation between degrees of order, fabrication method and human interaction.

Real Virtuality; @GillesRetsin Architecture combin

Real Virtuality; @GillesRetsin Architecture combines timber construction with Augmented Reality and Automation at the @royalacademyarts in London, United Kingdom. The installation was constructed out of serialised timber building block, using Augmented Reality to communicate between the digital model and the physical assembly.

The installation itself is a 1:1 test of a spatial fragment of a larger building. The spatial qualities are something close to the Diamonds House project (2016). The project is part of the Invisible Landscapes series, curated by @gonzaloherrero .

Renovating the old and inserting the new; Qishe Co

Renovating the old and inserting the new; Qishe Courtyard is a renovated house project by ARCHSTUDIO in #Beijing #China | 2020. The old and new are integrated into a new whole, to better meet future functional demands of reception and living for the compound.

The newly built veranda adopts a frame structure, with ribbed beams and panels on the ceiling, in order to maximize transparency and lightness as well as to better blend into the old construction. As for interior design, ARCHSTUDIO brought in various combinations of furniture made of old or new wood, which shows perfect mix of different hues and textures.
