ZHA and Epic Games collaborated to reimagine London in Fortnite

Re:Imagine London is a virtual experience developed within Fortnite, the world’s most popular video game. To create this project, the architecture practice Zaha Hadid Architects collaborated with Epic Games to show practical uses for gaming technology in architecture by using Unreal Editor for Fortnite.

The Re:Imagine London experience is set around London’s waterfronts, positioning itself as a cooperative multiplayer game in the strategy-builder genre. It carves in the educational aspects that allow players to understand terms like urban intensification and sustainable, mixed-use development. Players can solve urban planning challenges through collaborative gameplay and understand community input about the shaping of a walkable, environmentally sensitive city.

Pre-desired spatial scenes, at different scales, from the core of Re:Imagine London, were designed to represent the repetition of basic structural and geometrical rules coherent with ZHA’s built works. These now come to life by using the latest developments in construction technologies, including advanced parametric design methods reacting to environmental conditions. This immersive situation also uses the latest developments in lighting, material effects, and volumetric design to present a dynamic representation of how real-world architectural challenges can be addressed using virtual tools.

Players are invited to engage with Re:Imagine London by entering Fortnite using the virtual environment code 1442-4257-4418.
