Environa Studio, in collaboration with Collins and Turner, has designed Australia’s first indoor snow resort that will operate all year round. The Winter Sport World will feature a 300-metre advanced open run for snowboarders and skiers.

The original scheme was developed by Environa Studio over six years, and a competition was held to choose the design for the building’s facade, which was won by Collins and Turner. There will also be a dedicated competition venue for snow sports.

The current site of a 2.35-hectare horse paddock will be transformed into a tourist attraction. The transformed landscape will include features such as water streams, pathway networks, landscaped plantings, and eight-metre-tall wooden message sticks designed by a First Nations artist.

The design of indoor snow resort has been created to generate net-zero carbon, which has been achieved by incorporating rooftop and north-facing wall photovoltaic panels. The resort is expected to be open to the public in 2025.

Mr Magnisalis said, “Seven years after the initial idea, Winter Sports World can finally take real shape.” and added “Collins & Turner have exceeded my expectations. They appreciate the vision and understand the practical requirements of Winter Sports World and have delivered a design of outstanding beauty and uniqueness to an international standard as a landmark of significance.”

“We have consulted extensively with representatives of the Dharug nation, have collaborated with local First Nations artists and designers and will continue to seek ways to introduce new partnerships that inspire and educate local and international visitors about this ancient land and culture.”
