Set to open in 2026, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is a new cultural venue currently under construction in Los Angeles’s Exposition Park. Designed by MAD Architects, the project spans 11 acres and features a sweeping, futuristic structure inspired by interwoven canopies.

Once complete, the museum will house a wide-ranging collection dedicated to narrative art, including fine art, photography, comics, illustration, and cinematic artifacts, drawn from multiple eras and cultures. Developed with significant investment from filmmaker George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, the museum is designed to function as an arts institution & a civic hub with public green space, theaters, and educational resources.

The design, guided by MAD’s commitment to blending architecture with the landscape, takes shape as two interwoven canopies that seem to hover above the ground. This fluid, organic form integrates seamlessly with its surroundings, creating a dynamic threshold between building and park. Once complete, the museum will feature galleries, two theaters, a research library, dining and retail spaces, and extensive new green areas designed to invite public gathering and relaxation.

At its core, the Lucas Museum is dedicated to the power of narrative art. The collection spans diverse cultures and media, showcasing works from artists like Norman Rockwell, Frida Kahlo, and Gordon Parks, alongside original models, props, and concept art drawn from George Lucas’s vast personal archive of filmmaking history.

The project is positioned to become a major civic destination, one that connects art, storytelling, and community. MAD’s design advances the studio’s long-running exploration of architecture that fosters public life and softens the boundary between the built environment and nature.

With its distinct architectural presence and inclusive cultural mission, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is poised to reshape the cultural fabric of Los Angeles and broaden the definition of what a museum can be.
