Rolando Cedeño de la Cruz’s concept of Urban Crop Parks with Tensile Structures proposes the creation of urban farming parks in the near future. These parks would offer the community an opportunity to learn about the value of growing and caring for their food. This would help people understand our intrinsic relationship with life and the planet, as well as the importance of eating healthy foods in a more experiential way.
In these parks, the younger generation would learn from the older generation about basic cultivation techniques, the care of living beings, and the responsibility that comes with it. The older generation, in turn, would be able to sit and watch with joy as the younger ones eagerly learn these new skills.
To provide shade for people and crops, as well as to three-dimensionally demarcate their space, the parks would have a forest of tensile structures. Some of these structures could even capture part of the rainwater, which would be used in crops later in an efficient manner.
The Urban Crop Parks with Tensile Structures would be combined with various tree species to provide all the shade necessary for the operation of the project, as well as the aesthetic value and comfort of the people who use it.
In these parks, people will enjoy feeling the earth in their hands and reactivate the connection with the essentials of life. This would promote deeper and more fraternal human interactions, which have been abandoned by modern consumer societies that promote people’s isolation, depression, superficial interactions, and technology addiction.
