Remnants of a Future Architecture, by Roland Snooks

Remnants of a Future Architecture is a set of architectural artifacts developed by Roland Snooks and research and manufacturing by RMIT Architecture | Tectonic Formation Lab and FormX Technology investigating large-scale metal printing design implications.

Roland Snooks specializes in behavioral formation, algorithmic design, machine learning, multi-agent systems, and robotics. He had demonstrated his design and research at Computational Design: NEXT 7.0. You can register and watch the recordings of the entire conference by clicking here.

Additionally, FormX, founded by Nic Bao in 2019, with the aim of developing intelligent construction solutions using 3D printing technology and innovative materials partially funded the project. Nic had demonstrated his research at Computational Design: NEXT 8.0. You can register and watch the recordings of the entire conference by clicking here.

Remnants of a Future Architecture

The work speculates on the architectural tectonics of the near future, its ruination, and its link to a more extensive set of Anthropocene developing issues.

The project benefitted from wire-arc additive manufacturing (the WAAM) for the metal printing process. The RMIT Architecture and Tectonic Formation Lab developed this technique over four years.

Remnants of a Future Architecture

As part of Melbourne Design Week, the Remnants of a Future Architecture installation is on display at the Melbourne Art Fair till Sunday.
