Designed by LIJO.RENY.architects, House Veiled in Brick explores the delicate balance between privacy and openness through a thoughtfully crafted architectural language. Defined by a distinctive brick veil that wraps around the residence, the home creates a protective layer that filters light, promotes ventilation, and establishes a strong connection with nature.

Through exposed brick, raw concrete, and a sequence of courtyards, the project transforms everyday living into a calm and immersive spatial experience.

A Brick Veil as a Protective Architectural Skin

The defining feature of the residence by LIJO.RENY.architects is its continuous veil, which envelops built and open spaces throughout the property. Acting as a barrier and a filter, the perforated brick layer protects the home from harsh sunlight while maintaining visual and spatial openness. Beginning at the entrance court and extending along the eastern and western façades, the brick veil provides privacy, diffuses natural light, and creates shaded pockets that enhance comfort.

This architectural element allows the house to feel simultaneously sheltered and connected to its surroundings.

Courtyards Shape Light, Air, and Experience

At the heart of the brick home lies a large open-to-sky courtyard that serves as the focal point of daily life. Framed by long sliding windows and doors, the courtyard brings natural light deep into the interiors while preserving a sense of enclosure. Additional courts strategically placed throughout the residence improve cross ventilation and create dynamic spatial relationships between rooms.

These open spaces establish a strong biophilic connection, encouraging interaction with natural elements and fostering a comfortable indoor environment throughout the year.

Minimalist Living Rooted in Sustainability

The interiors embrace a restrained material palette of exposed brick, raw concrete, and natural finishes that emphasize authenticity and simplicity. Bedrooms on both levels benefit from shaded brick-enveloped pockets and sliding shutters that encourage airflow while maintaining privacy.

The central courtyard and interconnected open spaces create a microclimate that reduces dependence on artificial cooling systems, supporting sustainable living practices.

Through its careful integration of climate-responsive design and minimalist aesthetics, the house offers a peaceful retreat that enhances everyday well-being. Thoughtful architecture transforms site constraints into opportunities by combining privacy, ventilation, natural light, and material honesty, and creates a residence that is protective and breathable, offering a tranquil living environment deeply connected to nature.
