In Episode 60 of PA Talks, we had the pleasure of hosting Melike Altinisik, an award-winning architect, designer, and educator, for the second time in four years. Melike discusses her professional evolution and journey from Zaha Hadid Architects to establishing her firm, MAA. Throughout the episode, she shares her unique challenges and achievements in the architecture and construction industry, especially as a woman in this field.

Melike is the founder of Melike Altinisik Architects (MAA), an international architectural firm based in Istanbul. She earned a Master of Architecture and Urbanism from AADRL in London in 2006 and graduated from Istanbul Technical University with High Honors in 2003. Prior to establishing the MAA Istanbul Office in 2013, she worked with Zaha Hadid Architects in London from 2006 to 2013.

Melike’s extensive training and experience enable her to manage projects of various sizes, ranging from master plans, high-rise buildings, and cultural centers to custom interiors, installations, and product designs, from the initial concept to the execution phase.

Recently, Melike added RIBA’s new book 100 Women: Architects in Practice. The book offers inspiration to readers through 100 profiles, providing a flagship reference for women’s contribution to architecture.

Melike and her team recently won the first phase of the 2nd Sejong Performing Arts Center International Planning and Design Competition. The 2nd Sejong Centre for the Performing Arts is a major project of the “Great Han River” initiative, which aims to enhance the urban functions of Seoul with a focus on the Han River. It is located in Yeouido Park and is set to become a leading performing arts center in the area.

Hosted by Hamid Hassanzadeh, founder and creative director of PA, the PA Talks interview series brings together the brightest minds in architecture and design. These captivating conversations explore the lives, careers, and visions for the future of these individuals.
