Designed by OMA, Hangzhou Prism is a landmark mixed-use development that merges architecture with the city’s natural landscape. Located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, the 43,000-square-meter complex brings together hospitality, retail, loft residences, and public green spaces within a striking geometric form. Positioned in one of China’s fastest-growing technology hubs, the project aims to support the city’s evolving creative and innovation-driven community.
A Prism-Shaped Landmark Inspired by Nature

OMA’s design is defined by two dramatic oblique cuts that carve through the building envelope, shaping a distinctive prism-like form. These interventions create a series of terraced lofts that maximize panoramic views of the surrounding landscape while introducing generous outdoor spaces.

At the heart of the development, a large interior void forms a publicly accessible atrium garden complete with water features and playgrounds, offering a vibrant gathering space that connects architecture with nature.
Fostering Community in Hangzhou’s Emerging CBD
Rising as a contemporary landmark, Hangzhou Prism references the ancient Chinese saying, “Paradise above, and Hangzhou below,” through its soaring pinnacle and iconic silhouette. The project is complemented by a neighboring 35,000-square-meter residential tower whose façade echoes the geometry of a prism.

Together, the developments are designed to encourage the growth of a creative community within Hangzhou’s new central business district, combining flexible programming, communal outdoor environments, and a strong architectural identity that is both timeless and modern.
