Hyphen is partnering with Elea Data Centers to shape Rio AI City, a 900,000-square-meter technology district in Rio de Janeiro. Located within the city’s former Olympic Park, the masterplan integrates digital infrastructure into everyday urban life, blending AI-ready data centres with workplaces, public amenities, and green landscapes.

The project presents a forward-looking model in which technological innovation and environmental stewardship are pursued side by side.
A Data Centre District Integrated with Urban Life
At the heart of Rio AI City are more than 30 modular AI-ready data centre buildings designed to support the growing demands of artificial intelligence and cloud computing.

Instead of creating an isolated technology campus, the masterplan integrates offices, retail spaces, hospitality facilities, and public gathering areas into a connected urban district.

This mixed-use approach encourages interaction between technology, business, and community, transforming the site into an active destination that extends beyond digital infrastructure.
Hyphen’s Masterplan Prioritises Ecology and Resilience
Leading the concept design and masterplanning process, Hyphen has worked closely with Elea Data Centers and international collaborators from the project’s earliest stages. Sustainable architecture is embedded throughout the development, with the campus planned to operate on 100% renewable energy.

Green façades, biodiversity corridors, and water-retention systems help connect the site with the surrounding Mata Atlântica ecosystem while enhancing environmental resilience.
Transforming the Olympic Park into an Innovation Hub
Sixty percent of the site is dedicated to parks, public spaces, and shared amenities, creating a landscape-driven environment that prioritises people as much as technology.

By repurposing the former Olympic Park, Rio AI City establishes a new centre for innovation, business, and urban life in Rio de Janeiro. The project has already gained international recognition by earning multiple awards.
