How can architecture confront the dimension of the dream?

The course in Architecture for Hospitality, a project by Cesare Roversi, aims to train new generations of expert designers in translating the most diverse receptive concepts into as many architectural designs, placing themselves in a sector rich in resources and growing opportunities.

With this in mind, Yacademy envisioned an extensive program including special lectures, teaching modules, workshops, and visits focusing on diverse aspects of hospitality, creating accommodation facilities to escape from the ordinary.

At the end of the course, students will acquire the ability to generate the right atmosphere and ensure the best experience for the related users.

Such is the purpose of the course in Architecture for Hospitality, an educational program meant for young designers and graduates who want to refine their architectural skills and sensitivity to design the dimension of the dream, of the home away from home, providing the backdrop for one of humankind’s most cherished and fascinating experiences.

Structure: Special Lectures, Workshop, and Placement

Special Lectures by Jensen & Skodvin, BIG, Eduardo Souto de Moura

Yacademy’s mission is to bring young, talented architects into contact with the greatest interpreters of contemporary architecture. With this purpose, the Architecture for Hospitality educational program offers a series of special lectures held by the most renowned architects in the field.

Thus, the course will feature Torunn Golberg, Partner at Jensen & Skodvin, as guest lecturer, focusing on the Juvet Landscape Hotel in Norway, the idea of which “emerged as an opportunity to exploit breathtaking scenery with minimal intervention, allowing locations which would otherwise be prohibited for reasons of conservation.”

Architecture for Hospitality will also welcome Giulio Rigoni, Associate at BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group, for a special lecture on the Biosphere, the Treehotel in Swedish Lapland, known for its broad variety of cabins, each one having a distinct identity and interacting differently with the surrounding context.

Another Special Lecture will be the one by Pritzker Laureate Eduardo Souto de Moura, focusing on his intervention on the Santa Maria do Bouro convent in Amares, Portugal.

Other moments will have Elisa Vago from Matteo Thun & Partners, Beat Huesler from Oppenheim Architecture, Mohamadreza Ghodousi from ZAV architects, Alborz Mohammadi from Bofill Taller de Arquitectura, and India Mahdavi as lecturers. Some of them will also share their opinions about the projects students will be developing for the design workshop during the critique sessions.

Design Workshop: Design a treehouse suite at OasyHotel with BIG

Yacademy’s Architecture for Hospitality course aims at providing students with effective skills to combine comfort, identity, and respect for the landscape, with the aim of creating original and unforgettable experiences for guests. The design workshop meets exactly this purpose, being a crucial step of Yacademy’s educational program.

The design workshop for the course in Architecture for Hospitality is tutored by Luca Braccini, Associate at BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group.

The workshop will focus on designing a treehouse suite at OasyHotel, in the heart of the Tuscan Apennines, and will be an opportunity to design one of architecture’s most fascinating archetypes, based on a concept of authentic and sustainable hospitality.  Watch the video to learn more!

Some of the workshop objectives are to pay attention to the relationship between architecture and the natural environment, to the sustainability and replicability of the solutions adopted, and to the quality of the guest experience.

Divided into groups and tutored by the renowned architect, young designers will thus have the opportunity to enhance their personal and professional skills, refining their ability to work within a team on a real design challenge.
