BMW Motorrad has revealed the BMW R20 concept, featuring the iconic air-oil-cooled Big Boxer engine as a central sculptural element. Markus Flasch, Head of BMW Motorrad, describes the BMW R20 concept as a mechanical masterpiece, with the Big Boxer at its center, distinctly representing BMW Motorrad.
BMW R20 concept combines tradition and modernity. The chassis has been completely redeveloped and, with a black double-loop main frame made of chrome-molybdenum steel tubes, forms the backbone.
Distinctive Features and Sleek Rear Design
The updated aluminum tank features a progressive color scheme from the 1970s—”hotter than pink.” The polished and anodized aluminum cylinder head covers, belt cover, and air intake funnels, along with the gunmetal ISR brake calipers, footrest system, and Paralever strut, all match the color scheme of the BMW R20 concept. With its tiny rear and quilted black Alcantara and fine-grain leather upholstery, the single seat’s taillight has been expertly blended into the overall dynamic roadster design. The contemporary LED headlamp is a 3D-printed aluminum ring with an integrated running light during daylight hours. In the center of this running light ring during the day looks to be an optically floating main headlight.
“The R20 concept is a bold interpretation of the BMW Motorrad DNA,” says Alexander Buckan, Head of Design BMW Motorrad, and added, “It combines modern technical elements with a classic roadster design. Its oversized proportions and minimalistic aesthetic make it an unmistakable character.”
