ZHA's Jinghe New City Culture & Art Centre construction begin

The Jinghe New City Culture & Art Centre, ZHA’s awarded project’s construction began with a ceremony on September 16, 2022.
“The Jinghe New City Culture and Art Center will encourage the greatest building standards throughout the city. The project, which creates a range of new public places to serve the community, reflects Jinghe New City’s resolve to deliver high-quality architecture and urbanism,” said Hongwei Zhang, a committee member of Xixian New Area and Jinghe New Town.

The structure is located in the Jinghe Bay Academician Science & Technology Innovation zone. The center’s design integrates with the city’s existing urban masterplan to connect the new multimedia library north of Jinghe Avenue.
Jinghe New City Culture & Art Centre is part of the growing science and technology hub. Jinghe New City is developing as a research and technology center north of Xi’an. The city is becoming a center for growing sectors focusing on new energy and materials, artificial intelligence, and aerospace.

The center is designed throughout the city to connect its commercial and residential districts with the parks and river to the south. Also, bringing the city’s residents into this area and provides direct access to the planned metro station and a gateway to the district’s network of public walkways.

The design proposes a succession of internal and external cultural and recreational areas for its community; organized as a series of flowing volumes, layers, and surfaces interconnected with landscapes.
The performing arts theatre, located on the southern side of the avenue, seats 450 people for various events. The multi-function hall, workshops, and galleries are positioned around the theatre to share public areas and improve accessibility and inter-disciplinary cooperation.

Solar irradiation analysis and responsive site layout optimize the center’s utilization of natural ventilation and daylight in Jinghe New City’s moderate temperate environment. The building of the center, which will include solar panels for on-site electricity generation and rainwater collecting. It will prioritize locally manufactured materials with a high recycled content to attain a 3-star certification in China’s Green Building program.
