Designed by the internationally renowned architecture studio Snøhetta, the Beijing Library emerges as one of the largest and most ambitious library reading spaces in the world. Opened in December 2023, the project redefines contemporary library designs that restore the joy of reading and learning while also aiming to initiate human connections in an increasingly digital age. Recognized for its architectural and cultural significance, the Beijing Library has been awarded two prestigious honors at the AIA Hong Kong Honors & Awards 2025.

“We’re thrilled to share that the Beijing Library has received two prestigious honors at the AIA Hong Kong Honors & Awards 2025: the Merit Award for Architecture and the Sustainable Design Award!” mentioned by Snohetta.

The two honors are awarded for celebrating the library’s forward-thinking approach to contemporary library architecture, one that seamlessly blends innovation, sustainability, and community. Beyond its technical achievements, the design places people at its heart, fostering community engagement and reinforcing a deep commitment to environmental responsibility.

The AIA Hong Kong Honors & Awards 2025 continues to stand as a distinguished annual event of architectural excellence, spotlighting inspiring work across architecture, interiors, urban design, and forward-looking unbuilt projects. Through the event, it aims to showcase astounding architectural innovation and sustainable design by members and licensed architects from Hong Kong, China, and across the Asia-Pacific region.

For over three decades, the AIA Hong Kong Honors & Awards has stood as one of Asia’s most respected platforms for celebrating excellence in architecture, urban design, interiors, and related disciplines. Each year, a distinguished panel of international jurors undertakes a rigorous, multi-stage evaluation process, ensuring that every recognition reflects the highest standards of design integrity and global relevance. More than an awards program, it serves as a benchmark for quality, architectural innovation, and lasting impact within the built environment.

Introduced by AIA Hong Kong in 2007, the Sustainability Awards were created to highlight architecture that responds thoughtfully to sustainability, resilience, and long-term environmental responsibility. Within this framework, the Beijing Library emerges as a defining cultural landmark in Beijing’s new sub-center, recognized for its role as a contemporary space for learning, social exchange, and community life. Beyond its scale and innovation, the library reflects a broader commitment to shaping public environments that serve as a community forward.
