“Aguahoja” is a programmable water-based biocomposites for digital design and #fabrication developed by @mitmedialab and #NeriOxman.

Using a design approach that facilitates a tight integration between material creation and robotic fabrication, the project allows for the creation of objects across a range of scales. It examines the importance of water in Nature’s systems, the cycles of birth, adaptation and decay allowing ecosystems to re-use materials again and again.

By using old growth forests and coral reefs as inspiration, where waste is virtually non-existent, the design team compared this to the waste production rates of our building industries, where objects have an expiry date and materials are extracted from the earth faster than they can be replenished. 📝 Post by: @hamithz ———————————————————————

New York based designers @breakfastny has unveiled Climate Change Series #kinetic installations at @christiesinc .

The Climate Change Series where each piece reacts to real-time climate data from a specific location. The piece featured here is called Svalbard Ice, where the ratio of gold to blue is determine by the current temperature in Svalbard, Norway, which sits inside the arctic circle.

Designed by @futureformslab, the “Constellations” is a light #artwork and an outdoor immersive “theater in the round”. The installation will be a contemplative space for viewing flowing light patterns generated from #computation algorithms simulating dynamic phenomena, emergent behaviors and other datasets.

Patterns of programmable leds will move around viewers, swirling like a swarms of fireflies, at times slow and fluid transitioning to fast and chaotic.

Zaha Hadid Architects' #Beijing Daxing International Airport has completed construction and opened to public.
At 700,000 square-metres, the airport terminal building became one of the largest in the world.
It has been designed to handle up to 45 million passengers a year, with plans to increase its capacity to 72 million passengers by 2025.

“Tower of Spiral” is a spiral staircase twisting 810 degrees from the bottom to form a viewpoint to look out over the mountains close to Shenzhen.

Designed by architecture studio Doarchi, the stairs wrap around a small pool used for irrigation for nearby fields.

The pavilion is an exploration in scaling processes to the architectural realm. Deciduous is composed of a hybrid of 3 different sustainable materials: CNC-milled Birch plywood flooring, Robotically 3D-Printed Concrete Base, and a series of branching 3D-Printed PETG stems, a plastic polymer up-cycled from 30,000 discarded water bottles.

Designed by @harrisonatelier, the Pollinators Pavilion is an innovative work of design intertwining art, engineering, science, technology and agriculture.

Recalling the shape of a bees’ compound eye, the Pavilion is a visitor center, field station and analogous habitat for solitary bees. Far less well understood than honeybees, solitary bees are responsible for 75% of global non-agricultural pollination. “The form of the Pollinators Pavilion amplifies the presence of solitary bees, while its UHPC concrete panels each contain a monitoring system (camera, sensor, and microprocessor) that helps us to automate insect identification using machine learning.” Says Ariane Harrison. 🖋 Architect: @harrisonatelier

The beautiful new five-bedroom luxury chalet, The Lindis Lodgem, sits amongst the rolling topography of the remote Ahuriri valley and overlooks the glimmering Ahuriri River.

Architecture Workshop Ltd a Wellington based architecture firm, designed The Lindis Lodge with their consultants; Dunning Thornton, Ecubed and Holmes Fire. The Project was constructed by Brosnan Construction.

The Vessel of @officialheatherwickstudio has been announced as the winner of the Completed Building - Display Category in @worldarchfest 2019.

Vessel is a new type of public landmark – a 16-storey circular climbing frame, with 2,465 steps, 80 landings and views across the Hudson River and Manhattan. It is the central feature of the main public square in the Hudson Yards development, one of the largest real estate projects in American history, which is transforming a former rail yard in Manhattan’s Upper West Side into a completely new neighbourhood, with more than five acres of new public spaces and gardens.

Interior photo gallery of the Light of Life Church designed by @shinslabarchitecture tells the story of the resurrection in #Gapyeong, #SouthKorea | 2014.

The surface of the Dome is formed by the ends of the cut red cedar trunks. Unlike cut wood that is laid down horizontally, all trunks are standing upright like the trees of the forest; 834 unique pieces, seem to tell the story of the resurrection. None of these pieces are wood, they are trees.

Cellular Tessellation designed and built for the Vivid #Sydney, Light Festival 2014.

The pavillion is made out of aluminium composite cells with two skins, an acrylic internal skin and an external HDPE scale. The structural design is a complex aluminium vault with a plywood floor that braces the structure.

The structure is lit by coloured LEDs that are programmable.

This shop, specialized in selling pineapple cake (popular sweet in Taiwan), is in the shape of a bamboo basket. It is built on a joint system called “Jiigoku-Gumi,” traditional method used in Japanese wooden architecture (often observed in Shoji: vertical and cross pieces in the same width are entwined in each other to form a muntin grid). Normally the two pieces intersect in two dimensions, but here they are combined in 30 degrees in 3 dimensions (or in cubic), which came into a structure like a cloud. With this idea, the section size of each wood piece was reduced to as thin as 60mm×60mm.
