PA Live 001 – Refik Anadol
Hamid Hassanzadeh, founder of ParametricArchitecture, in this series of PA’s Instagram live sessions, interviewed Istanbul-born media artist Refik Anadol known for his recent works such as Machine Hallucination’s and site-oriented audio/visual shows for Walt Disney Concert Hall in USA. Currently residing in Los Angeles, California he is developing his works at his studio and giving lectures at UCLA Department of Design Media Arts.
Refik is the pioneer of creating parametric data sculptures through hypnotic audio and visual installation experiences combined with collected site-specific archives/data. Architecture, media arts’s and artificial intelligence were beneficial to experiment the physical and algorithmic existences.
He is fascinated by the vigorous perceptions of space, thus tries to push the boundaries of spatial orientations with data and machine intelligence. In this interview, he shared his wisdom, inspirations for continuing on creating mesmerizing works and the questions he seeks to find the answers for on how our encounter with space is changing when everything surrounding us has been digitalized.
Hamid Hassanzadeh is an Iranian architect, computational designer, researcher, and speaker. He studied his architecture education in Iran. With eight years of experience in this field, he worked on multiple projects in Iran, Turkey, Russia, Kuwait, and the USA. Early in 2016, he established Parametric Architecture magazine by starting from Instagram. Since then, he interviewed many architects and designers, conducted and supported workshops, organized events and lectures, and globally shared knowledge and information about computational and parametric design tools.
